JULY 26 — THIRD TIGER GONE AS EX-MIDYEAR DRAFTEE RETURNS HOME

Richmond forward Matthew Parker and the club have mutually agreed to part ways to allow him to return home to Western Australia for family reasons.

The 26-year old booted seven goals from 11 AFL games for the Tigers including five matches in 2022 after getting picked up in last year’s mid-season draft.

Richmond on Tuesday confirmed Parker informed the club of his struggles with a young family in Melbourne, leading to the decision for him to return to WA.

“I have made some lifelong friends at Richmond and have made many great memories during my time in the yellow and black,” Parker said.

“This club and its supporters will hold a special place in my heart. ‘Dimma’ and the people at our club always say family comes first, and living away from home has not always been easy for me.

“Now is a time that I must put my family first and return home to Perth with my partner and three children.”

He took part in Richmond’s War Cry pre-game ceremony alongside several Indigenous players and the Tigers’ wider playing group for its Dreamtime at the G’ game against Essendon in May.

Parker played 19 of his 30 AFL appearances for St Kilda from 2019-2020 before getting delisted. His performances for South Fremantle in 2021 then caught the eyes of recruiters as the Tigers threw him a lifeline.

“This is a decision Matthew has not made lightly, but family comes first, and we appreciate that,” Tigers general manager of football Blair Hartley said.

“We thank him for his contribution to our club and wish him and his family all the best.”

It continues a big week at Punt Road after triple premiership winning Tiger Kane Lambert called time on his 135-game career, effective immediately, due to an ongoing hip injury.

In early May dual premiership player Josh Caddy announced his retirement after 174 games at Gold Coast, Geelong and Richmond.
