The first thing you can do to make your rental bedroom feel more like home is to add some house plants. Plants can help to reduce stress, clean the air and can assist with focus. Not to mention, they bring a wonderful element of colour into the space and, they can bring any room to life.

You don’t have to be an expert with house plants, as there are plenty of low maintenance plants out there that almost thrive off being neglected slightly! Plants like aloe vera, snake plants and peace lilies don’t need much light at all. They will only need to be watered once every couple of weeks and, they will not need any special foods.

Head to your local home shop and buy a few lovely plant pots, head to the garden centre to buy your plants and then you will have a few lovely additions to your space!

Add Your Soft Furnishings

Another really easy way to make your rental bedroom feel more homely is with soft furnishings. Even if you have a furnished apartment, you can put your spin on the room massively. Cushions, throws, blankets, rugs and curtains are just a select few that you can buy. You can completely transform the space, make it much more comfortable and it is an easy way to express yourself with colour and texture.

Soft furnishings are so important, as they will help to bring your room to life, making the space feel like home so you can fully relax at the end of the day. Plus, during the winter soft furnishings will make everything feel nice and warm!

Pick Some Ambient Lighting

The next thing you can do to feel more at home in your rental bedroom is to pick some ambient lighting for the space. When you move into a rental property, likely, the bedroom will have one main light source in the centre of the room on the ceiling, which is often bright and not very comforting. So, the first thing to do is swap out that light bulb for a warm yellow bulb if it isn’t already, as this will make a big difference.

From there, you could buy a bedside lamp. Then, you have an option for dimmer lights if you want them. Another thing is that you could buy some fairy lights for decoration or swap out the lampshade in the room for the one you prefer. The only thing to note when swapping and changing things is to keep hold of anything you change that was originally in the room. The reason for this is because you will get charged for it at the end of your tenancy.

Investing in some ambient lighting is a fantastic way to bring your room to life.

If the walls in your rental bedroom are looking slightly bare, then you could hang wall art. Many people think that they can’t hang wall art in their rental bedroom as you would have to use nails or hooks. You should not fit these yourself because you will be charged for any of the damage that is caused. However, you can get removable adhesive strips that you can attach to the back of the wall art frames. So, when you come to the move-out, you can simply remove the wall art and, the strips (carefully following the instructions on the packet) and, no one will ever know anything was there!

You could go for botanical wall art to compliment your plants, typography wall art to add something sentimental to the room or, you could combine a few different things to create a unique gallery wall! It is a simple and affordable way to put your spin on the room and fill any empty wall space.
